SSSC 23 Things Digital - Thing 21 Digital Legacy

My digital legacy is something I never thought of to be honest, and now realise I need to fill out ‘ The Digital Legacy Association - Social Media Will Template ’ and have this attached to my will, which is with our solicitor, and with the knowledge, consent  and agreement of my family on my wishes therein. Therefore filling the template out, and one for my partner too, will take longer than the time frame within which I want to submit this blog for my open badge.

I have a website with a shop, not that anyone ever buys anything but you never know, and now realise the responsibility this is, and needs shared for if something happens to me.  I'll need someone other than just me to have access and will have to arrange who.  I will also now consider attaining legal advice regarding the ownership and passing on my business and the business website for my family to decide what to do with it, should something happen to me, as there is annual subscription to pay.

The checklist under website and blog and online bank accounts and subscriptions is extremely useful for me personally and to explain to not only the people I support but to staff and my wider organisation, as this is an area of life and future planning I have not heard brought up in any meetings at all through my workplace.  I will bring this up at our next Regional Outreach Meeting this month. Funeral planning, power of attorney yes, we discuss this and encourage this to be put in place, but digital legacy is not something we cover yet. People I support are becoming better and better skilled at online banking and meeting with friends and family etc but as with funeral planning our digital legacy is something we all need to think about and put in place what we want but something we find easy to ignore. We are increasingly finding we need to, try, to support people who are caught up in false beliefs about all sorts through their online lives. I will ask for the topic of digital legacy to be included in the staff training we have already become aware we need to ensure the health and safety of the vulnerable people we support. Thank You Open Badges!
