SSSC 23 Things Digital – Thing 16: Learning digitally

Traditional learning could be very dry, boring and irrelevant at times with performance rated on academic achievement and measurement against others which does nothing for anyone less than best. Alan Clarke’s characteristics of a successful elearner from his book E-learning Skills;

  • having self-confidence

  • being motivated

  • having a positive attitude

  • possessing good communication skills

  • being a good collaborator

  • being a competent user of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

    are the ideal way to be feeling for an individual's best performance ability with competent use of ICT being almost necessity now in todays digital age if a person wishes to keep up with the rest of the world. There is still a lot of resistance to take responsibility for ICT among some of the older generation in some workplaces though, which can slow down progress to the organisations ability to move forward with the pace of change and development of digital intelligence and ability to improve fitness for purpose of the organisation. The organisation I work for is working hard to implement use of Office 365 and use of Teams and Sharepoint among staff. I think if staff could understand that information sharing, record keeping and peer support is so much easier and more accessible online, and once they feel more comfortable with their use of ICT,k they would be more willing to learn. I think if staff could be explained some of the points in the article ‘The Disruption of Digital Learning: Ten Things We Have Learned’ they would get that the benefits of micro learning could help with overwhelm, save so much time and enable a much more relaxed work environment where we have more time to plan, self-educate, share learning with each other and more importantly with our service user group.
